It was requested that I do this.

Willow was in fact the first game I owned. I chose this because I think it is more defining really. Hoesntly who can really remember the first game they played? For me it might have been pac-man when my sister was in the hospital. Dunno.

For the most part, this is based on hours spent withering my body in front of a TV playing. A Link to the Past has got to be the most played game in my entire life, and was followed that closely only by Sonic3 / Sonic3 Sonic & Knuckles. However, since I played those games at nearly the same time, sonic did not make it to the list found here.

Metal Gear is defining both in time spent and time studying. Really, I actually would run through the game just to see how they built the levels, modled the characters, and painted the textures.

Oblivion is really the only game I've invested much time into in the last few years. Everything else is played either for some nostalgia or for a quick entertainment fix.

Maniac once asked me how it came to be that I was so obsessed with slugs. I explained a particular episode of Tiny Toons that stared my fascination (along with another friend's encouragement). It wasn't until today while watching an episode reviewed here that I remembered to look it up.

Behold! Immature Radioactive Samurai Slugs!

This is quite possibly one of the best forum posts for me since that infamous 'Helmut' post on GM. The only thing that makes it better is the fact that it is on a fairly respectable forum. Enjoy

In my previous entry I finished explaining the last few steps to getting a fully working rendering system up and running. Now it's time to bring in the big guns and start making it work well >:D

In my ongoing techno-babble chronicles about my 2D graphics system I've so far explained the vertex format for sprites. The next issue is to explain how I actually get it to the screen.

Stage 3: Title? Who needs 'em!Collapse )

Last time I dealt with the issue of deciding how to describe my vertex data and then figured out how to get the polygons to the screen in the right scale. This chapter I talk about how I got the textures onto those polygons to make them something more akin to an actual sprite.

Well I'm starting up right where I left off last time. The basic premise is laid out already. I want to make a decent 2D graphics rendering system suitable for a 2D game using Direct3D in C#.

Well as I stated before, between Stellarmass and various other goings on I'm also working on a 2D platform game of my own. To that end the next few posts are going to be dedicated to explaining the making of the graphics system which I just completed. I'd put it into a single post if I could but it will be far too long even to write it much less read ;) The tools in use are C# and a wonderful wrapper for DirectX a few members at gamedev.net cooked up known as SlimDX. Also note that I'll be trying to explain this in terms that anyone can understand so if it sounds like I'm insulting intelligences, that's not my intent. Also note that it's hard for me to always know if non-programmers really have any cluse as to what I'm talking about so feel free to ask questions XD

Ok, it's been something like two weeks since I posted stuff so here is another sketch dump of the rest. In my opinion it's not as good as the last but hey, it's something. I still have a few pages left on the back burner for later but I'm saving them for something ;)

Once again I forget the cut >:(Collapse )

Wel that's it for sketches. Expect a large number of rambling posts in the next day or so as I start babling about me finally finished 2D graphics system. 20,000 sprites is quite mezmerizing.
